[COMMUNITY] Is there a Discord for The Broken Empires RPG™?
There absolutely will be! But for the month of October, while the campaign is live, Kickstarter is where we need to focus our attention. Steady engagement in our Comments section and Updates helps improve our Kickstarter “Magic Rating”, which brings more attention to the game (and keeps negative Weave Reactions to a minimum). So keep your suggestions and questions coming! After the Kickstarter, we’ll announce to all backers a new home on the official The Broken Empires RPG™ Discord where we can keep the party going!

[GAME DESIGN] Can I play this game solo?
Yes! While simulationist games aren’t typically the best match for solo play, we are working with some of the most talented minds in the industry to create a system and toolset to allow a single player to explore the Broken Empires while taking on the role of both player and GM.

[GAME DESIGN] Does the The Broken Empires RPG™ include AI-generated art?
No, all of our art is made by human artists all across the globe, and is entirely original.

[GAME DESIGN] How are the Quick Start rules in the Starter Set different from the core rulebook rules?
The Quick Start rules in the boxed Starter Set give you just enough of the basics to allow you to jump into the included starter adventure, “The Witches of Grimdale”. There are no rules for character creation, but you get pre-gen characters in the Starter Set. The magic rules will be very condensed, mostly highlighting and explaining the abilities of one of the pre-gen characters, but not expanding past that. The Starter Set also gets you dice, maps, the adventure, and a useful token set to help track things at the table.
The core or premium rulebooks give you the complete ruleset with all of the expansions and supplements unlocked here on Kickstarter, including the expanded bestiary, additional player races, and rules for naval and mass combat.

[GAME DESIGN] Is there a beta version of the rules we can see?
Not yet! The bulk of the game is mostly complete, but it is still in development. I don’t believe in releasing anything publicly until it has been thoroughly tested by our team. However, I know that it’s hard to wait a year for the game to be in your hands; so, we will release a .pdf of the core rules (and other TBD materials) right after we send the final files to our printer. Delivery to the printer is tentatively scheduled for March 2025. In the meantime, I’ll be sharing developments of the game mechanics and features through updates and videos here on Kickstarter, Discord and FB.

[GAME DESIGN] What is Sim-Lite?
Every game exists on a spectrum between speed of play and detail of resolution. Sim-Lite strikes a fun and satisfying balance between the two. It uses the best of new school design to build upon the tried and true foundations of classic RPG mechanics. It provides a rich, detailed play experience while maintaining an exciting pace.

[KICKSTARTER] Can I change my pledge tier?
Absolutely! While our campaign is live (until October 31, 2024), you can adjust your pledge by clicking the “Manage your pledge” button. On the following page, select “Change your pledge”.
After October 31, we’ll send you the BackerKit survey and you’ll have the chance to modify your pledge then, too. This option is open to all backers, regardless of the tier you originally picked. Our goal is to provide you with a wide range of options to ensure you can fully enjoy The Broken Empires RPG™!

[KICKSTARTER] When will I be charged?
After the Kickstarter campaign ends on October 31, 2024, Kickstarter will charge your chosen payment method automatically. If you‘ve picked a physical reward, remember that you‘ll still need to cover shipping (see the Shipping section on our campaign page for estimates) and any applicable sales tax. The exact amount depends on your order, location, and local tax rates. BackerKit will calculate this for you when it‘s time to fulfill orders.

[REWARDS] Are Stretch Goals free when unlocked?
Most, but not all! If it is a Digital Item, it is free for all backers, but if it is an Add-On Item, it will be available in the Add-Ons section to add to your pledge for a discounted price once unlocked. Core Rules Upgrades require a bundle that contains the core rulebook.

[REWARDS] How can I get Add-Ons?
When you choose a reward tier at checkout, you can also select Add-Ons. For each product you want to include, click the “Add” button, and the item will be added to your total pledge. If you didn‘t select Add-Ons initially, no worries! You‘ll have another chance when we send out BackerKit surveys a couple weeks after the campaign ends.
For anyone who backs the Digital Bundle, Kickstarter will only allow you to select Add-Ons during the BackerKit survey.

[REWARDS] I backed within the first 24 hours. How do I get my free exclusive foil shield vinyl decal?
BackerKit will identify all backers who pledged within the first 24-hour window. If you are in that group, your decal will be automatically included for free when we ship your reward.

[REWARDS] I don’t see the unlocked Core Rules Upgrades in my BackerKit item list. Where are they?
Core Rules Upgrades are included in the Core and Premium rulebooks (both hardcopy and .pdf versions):
- Beasts of the Broken Empires: Creature Expansion Pack
- Naval Combat: Core Rules Supplement
- The Bolg Fiir: Player Race Expansion
- Mass Combat: Core Rules Supplement
- The Replaced: Player Race Expansion

[REWARDS] I pledged for the Digital Bundle. How do I select Add-Ons?
Because the Digital Bundle is a digital-only pledge, Kickstarter doesn‘t allow you to add shippable Add-Ons to your pledge. Only digital rewards are allowed for the Digital Bundle during the campaign. However, after the campaign ends, the Pledge Manager will allow you to select Add-Ons. Alternatively, while the campaign is live, you can upgrade your pledge to any other tier that includes physical items and you’ll have access to all the Add-Ons now!

[REWARDS] I pledged to the $1 Pledge With No Reward tier. Will I be able to access the BackerKit Pledge Manager?
Yes! We will be sending all backers a survey through BackerKit. If you pledged at the $1 level, you will receive a survey and have the ability to purchase rewards and Add-Ons during the post-campaign.

[REWARDS] I registered as a VIP backer during the pre-launch period. How do I make sure I will get my VIP rewards?
As long as you used the same email address on Kickstarter as the one you used when you registered to become a VIP, and you pledge for a reward, we’ll find you. Your VIP rewards will be automatically included in your shipment.
If you used a different email address on Kickstarter, one of the questions in your BackerKit survey will allow you to send us your original VIP email address. Don’t worry… we’ll find you!

[REWARDS] Is there a sizing guide for the t-shirts?
Yes! There is a sizing chart on the BackerKit survey. When you click on the custom tee item, it will show you a pop-up window that contains two images: the first image shows both shirts together, and the second image is the sizing chart. Alternatively, we have posted the sizing chart on our Discord and on the VIP FB group page as well.
Shirt Features:
• Premium fitted crew neck t-shirt • 60% combed ring-spun cotton/40% polyester jersey • Minimal shrinkage (5%) on a low heat setting in the dryer • Classic side seam • Soft tag (tag is screen-printed on the tee for maximum comfort)

[BACKERKIT SURVEY] Leftover Credit
If you have any leftover credit due to switching pledge levels in BackerKit, please note that this credit cannot be refunded. The remaining credit is considered part of the funds collected from the original Kickstarter campaign and is used to help produce the product. You can use any extra credit to select other items in the survey.

What is BackerKit?
BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!
The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.
How does BackerKit work?
After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.
I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?
The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.
Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.
To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.
How do I update my shipping address?
BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.
When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?
That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.
I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?
As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
